Back again- will it be spring soon???

I'm back again.  The last two weeks were challenging and I'm glad they are behind me.  You would think after another long stretch I would have lots to share, but real life has taken most of my time lately.  Darn real life!  I did manage to finish the bird bath I was making for the Candy House.  I decided to make it more of a fountain since it was out of scale.  This was my first BIG resin project- the only other attempt I have made was a tiny punch bowl.  I think if I did it again I would use saran wrap instead of fishing line for the overflowing water- but I still think it looks okay for this particular house.  If this house were more realistic I would probably like the fountain a lot less.

I also made a mailbox for the Candy House and some tiny mail to go inside.  The outside of the house is just about finished- I just want to add something to the wreath on the wall by the door.

I started to paint the bathroom in the Steampunk House and started a floor for that room.
Work started on a bed for Steampunk House and I bought a pencil sharpener gramaphone that I started to bash.  Not much got done the last two weeks, but slow progress was made :)

Hopefully I'll get back on track now and I'll see you with a new update next week :)

Hi Kim, you made some progress, nice :D!! That gramaphone is so cool and the fountain is really wonderful, well done! Especially those small birds on the edge, so cute. I know making small birds isn't easy ;)
Your mailbox is fantastic, great find to make it in the shape of a toffee :D!!
Hugs, Ilona

ah Ilona- I did not make the little birds but rather cheated because I found them at the art store and knew they would be the perfect size for this project! Thanks for your sweet comments-especially about the mailbox as I was not sure if I liked the end result or not :) hugs to you!!!

Kim, your candy house is a real treasure. It's surrounded and filled with beautiful colours and it looks good enough to eat. Your little fountain is adorable. The mailbox made in the form of a candy kiss is a real winner. What a fantastic idea! You have such a great imagination. That's why you're an artist! The gramophone is such a lucky find and will probably provide you with interesting pieces for your steam punk house. As for the bed, I can't get over it. I love that metal piece you have added and the candles will serve to create atmosphere!

Kim, your candy house never fails to make me smile. The mail box is adorable!

I am enjoying watching the steampunk house come to life. The style intrigues me - just haven't decided if it's enough to make me want to build my own steampunk house.

Hope to see you back soon!

Thank you De! I need to get over and visit you- I have not been a good blogger lately :) I have to admit that the steampunk house has been challenging for me-but I think it's good for me to do something outside my comfort zone once in awhile :) Sending you hugs!

Ok, that mailbox has got be my favourite part of your Candy house. This house is taking shape fast and growing into something quite spectacular! No wonder at all that this is your favourite house. This house is very you, Kim.

And you made water for a fountain. HOORAY! I have been wanting to try that for a while. Must do it soon!

Great work all round, Kim!

Kim said...

Jane- thank you so much! Oh...if the Candy House could have a scent too wouldn't it be wonderful? :)

Rosethe- thank you ♥vous êtes si doux et j'aime vos visites. L'espoir vous avez une jolie semaine ♥ (I used a translator- hope it translates ok )

Sans- how nice of you to say that! I struggled whether the mailbox was too cutesy and if I should add it! It was quite fun to make the mail to go inside. If you try water I must tell you that it was very hard to make the resin stick to the fishing line. I ended up adding some E6000 glue to the fishing line at the end to bulk it up a bit- I should have practiced first :) I worried also that the paint would seperate and I received a good tip from Nikki to give the piece a thin coat of the resin first and let that dry and then pour the basin full. I thought that was a great tip :)

Wow, Kim, that's a really good tip! I have experimented with water quite a fair bit. It's got to be one of the most difficult to assimilate convincingly. Lots of experimenting and any tips will be helpful!

Kim said...

Mijbil- thank you so much! big hugs back to you :)

Sans-I agree with you- it was hard to get a look that was realistic. I suppose it gets better with practice like everything else :) I love to pass on any tips I can- who knows what might save someone some grief :)

Hey Girl.....I know what you mean!! I am so ready for spring. Today is supposed to be in the 70's. I am going out and doing some gardening this morning. Your house is coming along nicely. It is beautiful. You have a phenomenal amount of patience. Can't wait to see the finished product. I bet it is fun decorating it, making all the little parts and pieces. Hope you start to warm up soon.
