Flower Swap

I'm not being the best blogger lately- I'm behind on welcoming new followers and I think I forgot about some awards to pass on.  My apologies-I've been spending some time trying to find out information about Hashimoto's Disease so I will be better informed for my doctors appointment next month.  I did take some time out last weekend to finish up a flower swap I am doing with Wanda from http://sominiprojects.blogspot.com/ and I finally finished my part.  I love making miniature flowers.  I made some potted plants for Wanda as well as some loose lillies to use in whatever projects she would like.  Now I have to get busy on my swap items from the All Things Mini swap.  Those items are secret until everyone receives them, so nothing to share there yet.

Healthy Thinking Thursday on Wednesday

Yep Laura, I'm copying you!  It's been awhile since I've done a Healthy Thinking Thursday post.  I feel overwhelmed and frustrated- it's been a long year so far.  I have struggled with my weight and exercise- I've been to the doctor telling them I don't feel right.  Finally a doctor listened to me and  I had a biopsy of the nodules on my thyroid and I have found out that I have Hashimoto's disease.   I go see an endocrinologist at the end of September and I am crossing my fingers and toes that they can help me to get my energy back, help me figure out why the simplest of exercise seems such a struggle for me and why I have to force myself to stay awake past 7 pm most days.  I truly thought that all of my symptoms might just be middle age hitting me really hard, so I am hopeful that this disease is doing all of this to my system and I might have a chance to get back to normal.  I am a person that likes to pack as much as I can into my days...I like to accomplish things and I'm truly happiest when I'm busy and achieving goals- so this year has been a struggle and very depressing to me.  So many of my symptoms that I attributed to my old age are also symptoms of this disease:  fatigue, aching joints, aching hips, depression, weight gain, constipation, heavy menstrual cycles.  Soooooooo, long story really short,  I'm still working on being healthy- not just the way I planned when I first started out on this journey.  I'm feeling a little better about it all  now because I finally feel like maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  Maybe I'm truly not lazy but just struggling against my own body.

candy house progress

I had a bit of a relapse this week, but I think I am finally feeling better.  I've had the chance to do a little bit of work on the candy house- and a little work on some flowers I'm really late with in a swap.  I can't show you the flowers, but I can show you the house.  I painted and glued on some shingles- I really like how they look!  I also added a frosting effect around one of the windows and started adding some frosting along one side of the house.  I need to make the stained glass cupcake in the large octogon window, but I'm avoiding it because I have no idea how I'm going to do it.  I'm thinking maybe those gallery glass paints?  Does anyone else have a better suggestion?
Miko is doing well with the new family.  He really does not bark a lot, and I've been told more than once that I am very lucky because Pomeranians do tend to bark.  He gets along with the cats well and my other dog Chester ( a yellow lab, golden retriever mix) absolutely adores him.  It's so funny to see them playing- the tiny little dog chasing the big dog all around.  I'm so grateful to have him- he's stolen my heart already :)

New Family and Wasted Time

I have spent most of this week sick.  What a waste of time.  I'm behind on reading all the wonderful blogs I follow, I'm behind on laundry and housework, I'm behind on swap items to get out the door and the poor candy house has hardly been touched.  I was a big girl and did some laundry and made a big pot of vegetable soup, so now I get my reward of catching up on blogs and maybe a little mini swap creating time.  Since I don't have anything productive to show you this week I though maybe you would like to meet the newest member of my family.  This is Miko.  He is a Pomeranian and his owner could not keep him and needed to find him a home.  He's 8 months old and I have to tell you that I am so lucky- he minds very well, he sleeps through the night without whining or barking, he seems to adore us already and it's only been one day.  I'm wondering if he was bounced around a lot because it seems as if he has no anxiety at all about entering our new family.  Since he's so small I'm hoping to be able to bring him to work with me- it will depend on whether or not he barks constantly.  So far it seems he barks just a few times when someone comes in, then when I tell him no he lies down and behaves.   Am I really lucky?  Aren't Pomeranians notoriously barking dogs?  Anyhow- my heart is lost to him already- he's such a cutie!

Candy House Update

I'm still slowly working on the candy house in between working on swap items.  I just bought some windows and one door.  The second door and an interior door for the bathroom will have to wait till later :)  I added some red rope licorice to the lollipop railing on the balcony and I started shingling a little bit of the roof.  I ordered a really fun mold that looks like frosting which I plan to use around the windows and the edges of the house.  I am having so much fun building this house- it's like I'm a little kid again and it takes my mind off of all of the stress from work and everyday life right now.  Sorry about the poor pictures- I took them quickly before work and I think I should have dragged a lamp over to point at the house.
Here's a little close up of the balcony:

My Kitchen and some swap items from Ira!!!!

The other day I was reading the blog of my new friend Eileen from http://the-artful-crafter.blogspot.com
She had a link to tutorials for metal reposse and I mentioned that I had done that same technique to my kitchen cabinets.  I don't think I have ever shown it before here on my blog- but here they are.

My kitchen is VERY small and the cabinets were a horrible stained plywood- I hated how small the dark stain made the room feel and I hated how cheap the cabinets looked.  Since a major remodel was not in the cards I decided to do what I could myself to fix  things up.  I bought some metal on a roll from the art store- I think this is aluminum, but not sure now. I drew the design out on paper and then used a dried up ink pen to transfer the pattern to the metal.  Then you take a stylus or one of those stump pencils for blending charcoal and go over the design on one side with a mouse pad underneath the metal.  After this is finished you turn your work over and go along both sides of the raised design to further pop up and define the design.  Now you have valleys on the backside of your work- I filled these in with wood putty so the design would not be ruined if it was banged on from the front. Next, I took India ink and covered the panels, then wiped the ink off so that the ink was left mostly in the valleys.  They received a heavy dose of sealer and then the last step was to attach them to the cabinets and trim them out.  You can probably see I am not the best carpenter if you look closely, but I really love these cabinets now and the white wash type paint treatment makes the room look much larger.

Okay....on to my new swap items from Ira from http://merryjingle.blogspot.com  !!!!  I cannot tell you how happy I was as I opened each little package from this swap.  My package should be going out on friday Ira- so sorry I'm so slow!  Here are my goodies...you are going to be amazed!!!

First, we have a little garden basket and 3 pots of flowers.  Oh how much I LOVE these little orange daisies.  They all went to my flower shop/bakery patio :

Next, there was these adorable arrangments on metal stands.  I saw Ira make some of these on her blog and wanted one soooo bad- and I recieved two!!!  Lucky me!!!  The pink one will go in the bedroom of the candy house and the blue one is going in the flower shop.  The sweet little bird is going to the living room in the candy house I think.  I love them all so much!
There's the blue one up there on the counter in the flower shop- of course it is selling right away!  Ira also sent the most adorable basket of pink daisies- I had to add that to the flower shop too- they are perfect!  There is a little bouquet of roses and I couldn't decide where to put them- they were perfect in so many different places, but I think they are going on the bed in the flower shop house for right now....right next to my treasured journals from Glenda.
I saved the very best for last.  Don't get me wrong- I love every single item, but this just made me jump up and down like a little girl.  This is a pot of sunflowers with red centers for the candy house.  I love it soooo much and it's going to look so perfect sitting next to the front door.  There are also some adorable signs with teddy bears that I'm going to use in the candy house- I didn't show them too close because I need to fix one of them- I accidentally tore it a bit trying to get it apart :(  It's not too bad though and should be an easy fix- they are soo cute!   Thank you sooo much Ira- I hope you like what I send to you!!
