New Minis and some pics of the yard

I have a four day weekend and it has been fabulous so far!  Yesterday I even took a nap!  I'm behind on reading blogs, but I thought I would pop in and do a quick post.  First, I have to share with you the wonderful minis i recieved from Doreen at http://doreensminiatures.blogspot.com  when she had a give away on her blog .  I know Doreen made a lot of these items- they are all so wonderful and I have a plan for each piece- thank you so much Doreen!!  Items from friends makes my dollhouse so much more special.  I love the little dolly so much- and the vanity tray is so tiny- it's just perfect!  I'm going to use the little yellow flowers in my rooftop patio- they are also so tiny and perfect!  The rug will go in my next dollhouse project, as well as the little toys and sweet little cotton candy :)

Thank you again Doreen- I love it all!

I have been spending some time outside in the yard on my time off. We washed the deck and put the roof on the gazebo. I can't afford new cushions for my deck chairs this year, so I sewed some covers from fabric I had in my stash and we sprayed them with scotchgard. They should be ok because with the roof on the gazebo they won't get too wet- and I really only NEED them to last this one year. Tomorrow I'll be washing and re-staining the wooden chairs with a new coat of green and then we'll be having my hubby's Mom over for a barbecue. Here are some pictures of the little garden in the backyard that I weeded today and the view looking to the right and the left while in my backyard. The flower garden I am always talking about is in the front yard. Hope you are having a good weekend- I hope to be back tomorrow or monday with a video of the front flower garden if I can figure out how I got it to post last time. I even talk in this one :)

Healthy Thinking Thursdays

Time for Healthy Thinking Thursdays!!  I still have not stepped on that scale!  Can you believe it- I just cannot force myself to do it.  I know I have not gained because my pants are finally looser, but I am just such a bundle of emotions lately- one day way up, the next way down, the next angry, the next sobbing, the next sooooo excited and optimistic.  I just feel this need to keep weight issues out of the whole package and continue to concentrate on eating well and trying to keep my emotions in check.  I have to admit that summer makes eating so much easier for me.  We usually grill most nights and it is so easy to throw some veggies together in foil with a couple sprays of Pam to keep it from sticking.  We snack on fruits much more in summer than in the winter and we seem to eat a lot of salads just because we don't want to take the time to make huge meals.  Maybe my whole problem is that I need to move somewhere where it stays warmer for longer chunks of the year!  I've been on the eliptical machine most days- and the days I have not been it is because I have been working out in the garden from the second I get home from work until it is dark and my hubby forces me to come indoors :)    I'm feeling healthy physically, so I think I'm doing pretty well.  Now....for some healthy info I found this week in prevention magazine.....  Studies show you are more likely to work out if you focus on how to work out instead of why to work out.  One group in the study listed why exercise was good for them.  The other group listed how they could get more exercise- small tips like keeping walking shoes in the car, etc.  After 2 months the "how" group was excercising 25 minutes more per week than the "why" group.  The study also feels focusing on how helped that group overcome their obstacles and stick with it.  This is good news for a list maker and planner like me.  So, that's it for this Thursday.  Please visit my friends to see how they are doing this week too :)

New Treasures!!!!!

I meant to pop this up yesterday- but after I went to the movies I spent the entire day in the garden!  I think my garden may be my most favorite place on earth.  I have a bird building a nest in one of my birdhouses and yesterday afternoon I heard the beautiful song that tells me the oriole is back!  Last year I was lucky enough to see the female oriole weaving her nest together in the tree beside my garden- it was amazing!  Anyhow, I wanted to share my wonderful new treasures with you.  I purchased a handmade miniature journal from Glenda at http://peppercornminis.blogspot.com  (here is her etsy store too:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/undancey )  When I saw her post the journal with the little gold oak leaves I just KNEW it had to come to my dollhouse!  I adore oak leaves and acorns- they have special meaning to me.  Look how adorable it is!  Thank you Glenda for the extra journal- you are so sweet and I love them so much!  These will go somewhere in my flower shop/bakery dollhouse- they are too wonderful to be in a piggy, messy bus!  I also recieved the most amazing gifts from a give away from Susan at  http://minicrochetmad.blogspot.com/  .  I'm saving these items for when I finally get to build my "candy" house that will look like the candy cottage from Hansel and Gretel on the outside, but be more "shabby chic" on the inside.  I cannot say enough times- a picture does not do miniature crochet justice.  These little potholders are so intricate and delicate- and just perfect.  I could stare at them for hours amazed by the craftmanship- I would not have any eyesight left if I tried to do this!  Amazing Susan!!  I am pretty sure Susan also made the cute little utensils and basket- and they are fab too!  Thank you so much to both of you- I am so proud to have minis made by friends in my dollhouses!!  Oh yeah, I put my finger in the picture so you could see how tiny this crochet is- please disregard my beat up, dirty gardening finger!!  Next time I'll use a penny or something!!  LOL!

What I've been up to

I didn't get a project done this week.  I have been working on some works in progress though.  On the bus I decided I did not want to spend the money on a fridge so I decided to create my own.  I'm not too far on it, I hope to cover it in some paper clay and make it a little domed, like a vintage fridge.  I painted the first chair and dirtied up the chair and the table, but I'm not sure I'm really satisfied with the chair and I might re-do that.  I also created some feet for the large bug lady and made her a banner to hold.  I need to do a bit more painting on her and bug lady will finally be finished and the proper guardian of my work room :)  I've been out in the garden most other times, I 'm really trying to get ahead of the weeds, and I think I might try that Preen I always see commercials for and see if it works.  Does anyone else have any experience with Preen?  Tomorrow I am going to see "How to Train Your Dragon" with a friends little girl.   She is so excited-it's super cute.  I can taste the popcorn already!  Hope you're having a great weekend too!!!!

Louise from http://petitewonders28.blogspot.com/  Louise is new to blogging.  She is a crafter and--yes Louise, I think we can say you are an artist too!  (got to help a girl out with avoiding those dishes!!)    Louise has an etsy store also--http://www.etsy.com/shop/petitewonders28 and has some wonderful creations there in polymer clay and needle felting.  I am in love with the little miniature pond on her blog with the goldfish swimming- so cute!  Please visit her and welcome her to the blogging world--nothing better than meeting a bunch of new friends!

Sketching Girl is from http://sketchinginthewoods.blogspot.com/  I adore this gal and this blog.  She is an aspiring artist, miniaturist and writer (I stole that from her profile- but it describes her so well!)  Sketching girl is working on improving her artistic skills and I love that she is setting goals for herself and jumping right into projects.  Sketching Girl has been writing a script also, if you read back a bit in her blog you can learn about the storyline- I wish I could write- I greatly admire anyone who can!  Her dollhouse will have 3 different themes- I really hope she shows us some pictures someday because one floor will be themed after "The Borrowers"- a book I really loved as a child.

Susanna from http://enrocalacuina.blogspot.com/  This is the MOST delicious looking cooking blog- I see more than one recipe I would really love to try out.  I got so hungry looking at her blog--I wish my asparagus would come up- there are some yummy looking recipes using asparagus on this blog!

Monika from http://puppenstubennostalgie.blogspot.com/  What a gorgeous miniature blog this is!  I love the pansies Monika has just made- exquisite!!!  I was having troubles with the translator- but really you don't even need it for this blog.  Lots of wonderful miniature items made by Monika- Love the plant stands a bit back in the blog.  I really look forward to seeing more of your work Monika!!!

Minimal from http://minimami.blogspot.com/  This is another blog with some wonderful miniatures!  My translator is messing with me today, so this is another blog I had some trouble reading- but no worries because I could just keep looking at all the wonderful minis all day long!  I think some of her items are things she has made, and some items are from swaps--it's all wonderful- you have to go have a look!

Healthy Thinking Thursday

Another Thursday already!  Does time fly past you too?  Do you remember wishing and wishing for when you were older when you were a child?  Now I wish I had more hours to play!  It's time again for Healthy Thinking Thursday.  I'm feeling really great this week.  I still have not stepped on that scale.   I've done some work on being mentally healthy the last couple of weeks.  My biggest challenge lately is putting myself first, so I have been really concentrating on that.  Sounds a bit selfish, doesn't it?  I've been really concentrating on taking my medicine, taking my vitamins, trying to get veggies in every day even if I've been slipping up on the fruit :)  This week I started back at exercise since the eating and emotions seem  to be going well.  I have to admit that I hurt, but it is a good hurt that makes you think of inches lost as you moan in pain.  I think I was in such an emotional funk that I was finding it hard to really concentrate on Healthy Thinking, but I hope that this is a new start and that things will go much better from here out.  I know that if I can get my leg and butt muscles stronger gardening is going to be so much easier, so I have extra incentive there.  I am out in my garden almost every single day until it gets too hot (I sunburn really easy, so when late July and August hits there is mostly "dusk" gardening :) and weak muscles just won't do.

I wanted to share  these cool plates with you- I wish I could purchase just one- but what a great idea!  They are from a company named Slimware.

The plates are designed to help you watch your portions- Each flower represents how much of a certain food group you should eat. Check it out here: http://www.slimware.com/Articles.asp?ID=172 So the veggies would go on the largest flower, the meat in the smallest flower and the carbs or side dish in the middle flower. If your meat is bigger than your flower- you are eating too much! Love it!!

I also wanted to share with you results from a Nurse's study that I read about in Prevention Magazine.
1. Exercising at least 3 times a week at a moderate to high intensity can reduce odds of mental decline by 46% in a study of adults over age 55.

2. Lifting weights twice a week can boost bone density and decrease falls by 40% in a study of women age 65 and older.

3. Women who walk at a brisk pace at age 60 are up to 200% more likely to remain disease free at age 70.

So, I guess the studies are showing me that living healthy, eating right and exercising will help me live longer and live better. Better keep at it :)

Here are the wonderful friends that sometimes post about their healthy journeys also- please visit them if you have time. I'll be back tomorrow for some long overdue welcomes to new followers ♥

I'm Back- Bus, Patio and Garden Eye Candy

I'm back from my little break.  I'm not really any further ahead with anything than I was two weeks ago, but my mind is clearer and my home is a little less of a disaster area :) Hopefully I'll do a better job of keeping up with things.  I've been working on miniatures in tiny little bits- moving at a snails pace!  Here are some new pictures of the bus.  Still no pig to live here yet, but we now have a toilet, a formica counter around the sink, a formica dining table and a brand new driver's seat.  I need to finish the shower stall and make a shower curtain and I need to repaint the bathroom door where you can see I've ripped the cardboard!  I also need to add more accessories than just the newspaper on the floor- I want it to be really messy!  I started printing off some prinites in food containers to have strewn all over the place, but lots more work to do there too.  How could I forget-need a fridge also!!

I have also started to work on finishing the rooftop patio of the Bakery addition to my other dollhouse.  I want to put down a flooring here that will look like slate, but I have not started that yet.  Instead I made pots for flowers, because that is way more fun than working on a floor!  I made the little trellis in the corner and that will eventually get a climbing clematis that I bought a kit for.  The other pots will have paper flowers also- but it all may be awhile in coming together since I'm not too quick with those little paper flowers yet!  Last, I wanted to pop a couple of pictures of my real garden up--not much to look at right now, but I like to have pictures throughout the season because I think it is fun to see the differences in seasons.  Hope all my wonderful friends had a wonderful Mother's Day!!!

Make a Difference in a Child's Life

I'm popping in really quick to post about a give away my amazing friend Jayne from http://tallulahbelleoriginals.blogspot.com/2010/05/giveaway-time.html is having.  Here is some info I have copied straight from her blog--what a wonderful give away- you feel like you won even if you don't end up winning.

Did you know....

Every day more than 4,000 children in developing countries die, simply because they don't have clean drinking water.

* Contaminated drinking water is a major problem. More than one billion people do not have access to safe water.

* Diarrhea caused by drinking contaminated water remains a leading cause of illness and death among infants and children in the developing world.

* About 1.8 million children die every year due to diarrheal diseases.

* More children die from diarrheal illnesses like cholera and dysentery than from HIV/AIDS or malaria combined.

* It is well documented that simply providing safe, clean, drinkable water can reduce deadly diarrhea and other devastating diseases by about 50%.

When you and I need a drink we can just flip on the tap and know that water is safe to drink.

Can you imagine having to walk miles to collect water to drink.

or drinking water from a lake in which cows freely roam.

I can't and it breaks my heart that I cannot just wave a wand and put an end to this right now.

But there is something we can do.

20 packets of Pur water purifier will provide one child with clean water for 100 days yet only costs $2.

To enter this giveaway I ask that you please donate $2 directly to the charity that does this wonderful work.
That is direct from Jayne's blog-- you can travel over to see her and donate to enter her give away-and to check out the amazing prizes she has for this giveaway, or you can just donate  without entering just because this is a great cause.  There is a link to the donation page right above my picture there on the sidebar or you can click here:  http://www.csdw.org/csdw/home.shtml
Thanks in advance if you donate and Thank you to Jayne for raising awareness to a great cause that is so easy to donate to.  Should be back to normal blogging next week- I've missed it!!
