Project of the Week of March 27th

My project of the week for this week was inspired by an article that I read in Somerset Studio magazine.  It is a combination of ink drawing, paint, collage and painting it all with melted wax.  I HATE it.  What's worse, the more I messed with it trying to make it into something I liked the worse I hated it!  I was going to chuck it all and back out of my project of the week, but then I realized- not everything I make has to turn out great.  Sometimes it's just doing the work and trying out something new. I decided I'm going to show it to you and accept that  I definitely need some practice working with melted wax and painting.
I also finished soldering some charms for the large bug sculpture in my craft room. I have a lot of work left before she is finished- I think I need double this amount, so I'm off to solder some more.  Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

I like the project actually. So does Gabby. :)

I'd forgotten about your big bug lady thingy. Love those charms, it's going to look amazing!

I was going to tell you something and I've forgotten what it is...

You are a lady of many talents, Kim
they are really lovely, I don't know how you get the time to do all these things, perhaps if I got off this puter I could too lol

I like it, too. I, like you, have tried some mixed media pieces and usually conclude it must not be my thing! I am never quite happy with my efforts.

Are you kidding me? SHE's AWESOME! MAN, are we too hard on ourselves or what! I have been wanting to try encaustic, too! Can you revisit this bug sculpture? I haven't seen it. I have 4 bugs started, hanging out in a closet waiting patiently for me to get to them. If only we really didn't need sleep....

I like it! I can see potential for that collage/wax technique. Don't give up-- I think your first try was pretty darn good!

Good on you for being brave enough to post something that you don't consider your best work. That takes courage. (And yeah, I think you're being too hard on yourself!) It's always fun to try new things. Even if they don't work, we often find the effort aids us in other ways.

I like it. But I understand the frustration of not liking how something turned out. You posted it anyway and good for you! Love your charms, too. You are talented, Kim, and you always try something new.

Thank you everyone for your sweet comments. I think that most times when I make things I have a vision in my head and when the item turns away from that vision I start to hate it. I think I really hated this project the most because of my lack of control- I'm not used to working with the wax and I found out quickly that the wax will do whatever it wants to do and there is no going back! I think I would try this out again though so I could improve my technique-and maybe even love working with the wax ♥. I think it has fun possibilities.

Laura- did ya remember what you wanted to tell me?? It must be how amazing I looked in those mittens, right??

I like the project. And I love soldering. I am going to take a welding class one of these days...although it scares the heck out of my husband - ha!
