I would like to welcome a new follower today. I found this blog while blog-hopping along and I knew I needed to follow her. Please welcome Amanda from http://minitonyina.blogspot.com/
Amanda makes dollhouse miniatures that are to die for! Excellent craftmanship- if you hop over to her blog you can see her latest creation- an adorable tea cozy, placemat and tea and treats. Sooo cute!!! Amanda also has 6 kitty babies, and how can I not love anyone with cats :) Thank you for visiting Amanda!!
In other news, I have a picture of my new "torture" device. My hubby bought me this new Gazelle Trainer to help in my quest for a healthier body. The walking and treadmill has been helping me, but I have to admit that my hip has still been hurting me quite a bit. I hate popping advil all the time, so still trying to solve this in a healthier way. This machine is sort of like an elliptical machine, in that you glide your legs back and forth rather than taking steps and picking your foot up and down. I am here to tell you that it works, as I used it saturday and sunday and each morning it took a bit of moving after waking up to loosen up my muscles. I was a little sore- but amazingly- in my thighs and calves, not my hip! I am hoping this trend continues and I beat this blasted hip pain for good. I also have a picture of my bedroom. I live in a very old farmhouse. Old farmhouses often do not have closets, or not very many. For some reason this house had closets upstairs and none downstairs. The previous owners made a couple of closets in the bedroom- makeshift- and not really placed in the best location. After the dresser was stripped my hubby had the idea that we should rip the old closets out, use the dresser cut in half and make a new built in closet along the wall across from our bed with the dresser drawers as the base. This makes much more sense in the small bedroom we have, and we will actually gain a lot of room, since the closets from the old owners were put up in such a weird way......but it means that my bedroom and living room are once again a disaster area and I probably have a few weeks of construction to live around. I keep telling myself to picture it done when I look at it and not the mess I see now. In this picture you can see he has started to put up the new closet frames, but we are no where near close to having new closets at this point. This is his messy side. I'll show you more as we get further along :) Happy Monday!!
I had really good intentions for doing a blog post this weekend, but life just moves too fast sometimes. I received the most wonderful package on friday from my friend Eva at http://prunellascreation.blogspot.com/
Eva is an excellent artist and creates all different types of work. Drawing, fiber creations, paintings, jewelry and my favorite- stories and writing. Eva created an incredible box with a drawing/painting of the oak genie with a story to accompany it
and I was lucky enough to purchase the box from her. I am so pleased to have a part of Eva in my home, and I have pictures of the box in it's spot on my small buffet type table in the dining room. I love it so much Eva and I cannot say thank you enough. I have printed the story to store inside the box, so that I may always have a little magic in my life.
Whew! I got through my first night of school yesterday. The awesome part was that as I was walking up to the classroom a lady that looked about my age, maybe a bit older, was walking up too. I asked her if she was taking the same class and she was- so I instantly made a friend and ally since she was as nervous as I was! The class passed by so quickly and I didn't really want to leave- we didn't even really get a chance to get very far- and no homework! I know it's silly to say- but I was really looking forward to homework! Anyhow, the worst part is through now so I probably won't bore everyone with school talk now--although I have to say that if I won the lottery I would probably go to school full time instead of working. I love learning! My instructor is so laid back too- which makes it even more enjoyable. Basically his rules are show up to class, be respectful at class and turn in your assignments. I can handle that! Today I am walking on air and I am just so blessed happy. Hope your day is happy too!!
Hello!! First off this morning I would like to welcome a new follower--Cindy from http://snowfern.com/
I visited her blog hopping over from someone else's blog (love to do that!) and I am truly in awe. Snowfern creates amazing miniature food- and containers for the food also! I love that she shows us her experiments and her recent post about customer feedback made me giggle. She also has an etsy shop at
Now, I also have a couple of pictures to show you today. One is of me. I am not sure if it is because I am so very nervous about school or if it is because of all the water I have been drinking, but I am breaking out like a teenager!! Do you think this will make me seem less old at school tonight? Is my body doing me a favor by trying to help me seem younger and fit in? I have to laugh about it because otherwise I would whimper and cry. I have not had acne like this in quite awhile! I also have been working on the dollhouse rug quite a bit. I am working with a pattern that is not fully finished (you are supposed to just finish the other side to match the left side on your own I guess? If I am wrong I am going about this stitching thing entirely wrong and need help!) Anyhow, somehow I think the whole thing is going to be one stitch off at the opposite corner and I am trying to decide if that will bother me, if I should rip things out, if one stitch will even be visible to anyone but me that is making the rug- especially since the end where the stitch is off will most likely be under a piece of furniture. Agh!!! I don't know what to do- I even spent all night dreaming about counting stitches and trying to make it work. I guess this is what I get for showing off and jumping right from a pillow to a big rug! Going to step away from it for a few days and think about what to do- any opinions are gratefully accepted! At least I didn't dream about going to my first class naked all night! Hope your day is great!
is having a give-away on her blog for her birthday. She has some pretty cute prizes- but more than that, she is a great, funny, talented gal and I would love it if you would pop over and wish her a Happy Birthday if you have an extra second. It would be great if she received lots of good wishes and has the best birthday ever.
This last weekend I was brave and glued more of Bernard's house together. I need to tackle the shingles next...not my favorite part. I also have to touch up the paint on the trim on the outside of the house and I think that the porch is kind of begging for a birdhouse, so that is on my to-do list. I am also posting a picture of a new project. I have always wanted a grandfather clock. I am probably never ever going to be able to afford a grandfather clock- so I have decided to make my own. This is an old clock my Mom found at a garage sale. I am going to transform it into a grandfather clock. This is on the top of my to-do list for the winter months- it will be slow moving, but I will be showing my progress as I go along. I hated the roman numeral face plate that was original to the clock, so I painted over the face with my own design. Oak leaves- big surprise, right? The clock will eventually be all burgundy with the cream face and burgundy oak leaves. My next step involves having my hubby help me cut some wood--so it may be awhile before I post more pictures of this project. That's ok- I have enough other projects going on to keep me busy :)
I stumbled upon Feef's blog from someone else's blog- as I like to visit random blogs to see what I find out there :) Feef has just started her blog and is an amazing illustrator. I love the work she has posted so far and I look forward to seeing more of her work. Please visit her if you have time and check out her artwork. Thank you for visiting me too Feef!!!
I am having a wonderful Saturday. We had decided to be lazy today since my hubby and I are both tired, but somehow that never lasts for us. We have been slowly remodeling and fixing our old farmhouse. My bedroom is one of the rooms we have hardly touched. We bought a log bed last spring and I love it. I live in a wooded area and I love the look of natural wood in my home. Anyhow, we have this old dresser that is in pretty bad shape. We have been talking about stripping off the old poly and varnish and sanding it down and just polying the wood to match the log bed, so today I started stripping and sanding drawers. You can see in this picture the old stain-- and one drawer I already finished stripping and sanding. I am stopping for the day and I have four drawers done. Not too bad. The hydrangea and the purple coneflower are blooming in my garden and they are gorgeous! The other picture is of my favorite sight when I am driving home from work. I think these are sheep- although there may be some goats there too, I'm not sure. I love these little guys and it makes me smile every time I see them out eating. Hope your Saturday was great!
I am struggling with the translator and I am feeling ashamed that I do not know more languages than English- how I admire my friends and followers from overseas that are fluent in more than just their own language. There are some gorgeous pictures on these blogs- minis and gorgeous paintings- I think I read that Dora (Carmen) is a painting professor. Her blogs are a fantastic treat to visit- and the links!! I could explore for the whole weekend! Thank you for visiting Dora!!
I am struggling with this translator too. I believe Ana is also on a journey to a healthier and happier/peaceful person. She is a proud grandma and I believe she makes towels and napkins, among other crafts. If this is incorrect Ana, my apologies. Your site is beautiful but I had some problems translating it correctly. Thank you for visiting me!!
If you have time please visit these ladies and say hello!
I was driving to work this morning and I happened to think....I am happy. I think I might be the happiest I have ever been. It is true that I am working on things to improve. I would like to be a bit healthier, my list of home improvement is not entirely finished, I have a bad habit of starting waaay too many projects. However, I am a very happy and lucky girl. People told me the year I turned 40 would be tough, but I think I am just starting to turn into the person I would like to be. I look around me at the friends I have, the home I live in, the wonderful nature that surrounds my home, my family, my incredible husband and I am so very grateful. I really don't know how I could ask for more in life and I just felt the need to express that today. I hope you are feeling happy lately too.
I have been doing pretty well with my exercise this last week. I have been doing just ok with the eating. My hubby is a snacker, so it is hard for me when he is constantly snacking. I am trying to make my snacks fruit or veggies- but I do tend to slip in something better now and then- like a chocolate chip cookie. Can't totally deprive yourself, ya know? Anyhow, for some reason I thought I needed to start another project. I was so pleased with how my pillows turned out for the dollhouse that I decided to make a rug for the living room in the dollhouse. Here is a picture of my progress so far. I can already tell I might be doing something wrong and I will have to go to Casey and Tiffany's blog to find out how to block it back into shape. I know one thing I do wrong is I don't relax my stitches enough. It is so hard for me because as a florist when making corsages I was always taught to keep the wires and tape very tight and so that is what my fingers naturally want to do- pull tight! I am getting better though- especially because I find stitching so relaxing. I often pull out a embroidery project whenever I feel I need a rest. One week until I start my class. I have all my books, my expensive flash drive ( I had to buy a 8 gb flash drive- $20.00!!) and a cute little bag to put my books in so I can throw it over my shoulder. I am set!!!!
This will be possibly my most embarrassing blog post ever- but I'm really working on this, so the more brave and open I am about it, the more likely I will be to stick to this. Here are before pics for my reference- taken today. Please try to ignore the sweat and plastered down hair(I just got done exercising) and the grubby clothes(my first "treat" for doing well should be new workout clothes I guess).
This past weekend was my friend's daughter's wedding. Hopefully that is the last of my running around being a social butterfly for awhile. I will be the first to admit I am a bit of a homebody and a full summer of social engagements has worn me down a bit. Sunday I did nothing but work on Bernard's dollhouse. You might say I was on strike. Of course, this morning I freaked out about it and was in a frenzy to do the dishes and a load of laundry before I left for work, but sunday was worth it. I even took a nap! Yesterday I bit the bullet and glued the frame for Bernard the bears house together. I don't know why the gluing scares me so much, but it does. After patiently waiting for it to dry I tore off all the tape and put 2 coats of the house color on. It looks fab in person- in the picture you can't tell a real difference between the paint and the color of the mdf. I love the brown with the red and white trim though- and so does Bernard. Of course, I had to pop on the windows, tape on the shutters and prop up the porch railings to get an idea of how it would all look. I swear I have never grown up- at least I don't still flip to the last page of books to know the story ending! I also painted a couple of boards for gifts for friends. I only have one to share here, as the other one is going to someone that reads my blog and I won't be able to post until after she receives it. It was a great day- escaping from obligations and taking time to re-charge. On a personal note- I have been having good days and bad days with my diet and exercise. I walked quite a few days, but then the wedding pushed exercise away and you don't even want to know all that I ate. It was great fun, however and this week I am back at it. Slow is better and of course I know there will be days I fall off the plan so I am okay with it all. I am thinking if I stay brave I am going to post a "before" picture here so that I continue to stick with this plan. Off to do some work now!! Have a great day all!!
I have not been doing a lot of miniature work lately. I did manage to work a bit on the staircase for my house for Bernard the bear. I decided that the staircase would need a railing or a wall- he could fall off of an open staircase if he was too tired! I built a wall out of skinny sticks and metal washers. I have not attached it yet- still trying to decide if I like it or not. I also made a second staircase out of skinny sticks and basswood. It's not perfect- but it matches close enough to the set that came with the house I think. I think that if a dollhouse has stairs to one floor that there should be stairs to every floor, or no staircases at all. Just my opinion. I have also been working on my tea cozy. This is for my regular "human" teapot. I drink a lot of hot tea in the winter, so I stitched this tea cozy for my tea to stay warm in between cups. Unfortunately, after I made it I had the teapot too close to the stove and my hubby splashed bacon grease on it. I love this fabric- and I had already done all the beading you see on the edge of the cozy, so I decided rather than throw it out and start over I would just keep stitching on the cozy until the bacon grease is hidden. I'm still stitching on it, but here you can see the progress I have made so far. I have to say a big thank you to everyone that read my previous post all the way through and commented. I do not have a lot of friends in real life- definitely not a lot that would want to hear about my weight and health issues, so support from blogging friends mean a lot to me. Walked yesterday and had a very healthy dinner with some strawberries as a snack, so I am heading in the right direction hopefully.
I don't have any pretty pictures today. I don't even have a nice sweet blog entry. Today I just kind of feel like rambling, which I don't usually do here, but today I am. This is sort of a post for myself to keep myself accountable so please feel free to not bother to read further. I used to go to weight watchers. I love weight watchers. I love that they teach you to eat correctly. You can eat things you love, you just learn moderation and sensibility. Unfortunately, when I get stressed out and just plain have too much to do I do not eat sensibly. Food has always been a comfort and a coping mechanism for me. I quit going to weight watchers meetings in February when money was a little tight for us. I was fine for awhile, but then my schedule kept getting busier and busier and my eating kept getting worse and worse. I used to weigh 185 pounds. I was down to 145 pounds, but people kept saying I looked sick so I went up to 150. I felt great at 150. I exercised three or more times a week and I had a lot of energy. Right now I am up to 161.2 . I have not been exercising- the doctor has told me I have arthritis in my right hip and I feel tired and awful. Today I have decided that there is nothing as important as taking care of myself and I am going back to my weight watchers way of life. The reason I am blogging about this is because if I write this here- if I post my weight here and then again next week it is almost as good as going to weight watchers meetings. There is at least one person somewhere out there reading this and so there is at least one person out there that will know if I don't try. The doctor told me that if I get regular exercise my hip will not hurt me as much- and truthfully if I get heavier I am just not going to be a happy person. I will beat myself up inside for letting my hard work go for nothing and so I hope to head this off and get back down to 150- where I had energy- my clothes fit with out making me uncomfortable and I had waaay less stomachaches. Anyhow- thanks to whomever kept reading this all the way through. Next week I am going to post my weight again and see if I manage to lose a pound or two by returning to weight watchers way of eating. Tonight I will take some pictures of what I have been up to so we can be back to fun posts tomorrow :)
I bought my 2 school books today!!!! I think I may have had a heart attack when the gal told me $127.00, but I kind of expected it, so had money set aside for it. I guess I should say thank goodness she didn't say a higher number. I do not know if I am more scared or more excited. Now I just have to wait 2 weeks for that first class and then hopefully all will be good. I feel just like I did way, way, way back on the night before the first day going to the big bad high school. Did your older friends tell you horror stories of what they did to the freshmen in high school that kept you awake the night before? Just had to post about my books because I just had to tell someone else besides my brother! Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
Jaime loves dollhouse miniatures also- looks like she is working on a boutique- she has some incredible jewelry in a case for her boutique posted recently. I love her profile where she says she has more unfinished projects than finished. A person after my own heart- at least I am not alone :) I also instantly love her and have to follow her blog because she has garden pictures. Post a picture of your garden and I am hooked! I look forward to seeing more of her boutique- thank you for visiting me Jaime!!
I am also re-posting the photo challenge because I was tagged by Lena at http://miniatyrmama.blogspot.com/ (her blog is beautiful- if you have never visited you must go over and take a look)
This time I opened the 5th file and chose the 5th picture. (can you tell I like this challenge?) I will again pass this on to whomever wants to do it since it is hard to figure out who has not been challenged yet.
This is a picture of my kitchen. We are still working on this room. My cupboards used to be wood in very poor shape- and not the best wood. It is a really small room and the brown cabinets made it seem like a cave. I made these tin panels to go on my cabinet doors and then painted all the cabinets white with a cream drybrush. Since this picture was taken my wonderful hubby bought me a pretty new microwave to replace this one. Pieces were breaking off this one- it was in pretty bad shape :)
I just received a couple of little dollhouse boxes of truffles from Karin at Mini Ramblings and Musings. It was a wonderful surprise from this post http://orrlakemusings.blogspot.com/2009/07/my-first-sale.html --Karin gave away a prize to the first 2 people to comment on her post! I chose to receive a little box of truffles and Karin sent me 2!! I have pictures of them in my flower shop dollhouse. You can barely see the one box- it is on the front counter being purchased with a bouquet of roses. The second box is on a shelf in the shop. Thank you Karin- they are wonderful and I love them!!!!
1 Open the 4th file where you store your photos 2 Pick out the 4th photo and publish it to your blog 3 Explain a bit about it 4 Pass this challenge to 4 other blogs
I had to cheat a bit because the 4th photo of my 4th file is of my niece and I do not have permission to post her picture on the internet. I chose this picture-which was the 5th. This is my hubby working on a large hole in my living room wall. If he knew I posted this he probably would not be too pleased :) A friend gave us a gorgeous glass door for free and somehow I convinced him that a door to the backyard would be a good idea, since the door was free. I was right- we use this door all the time and since our front yard is full sun, but the backyard is shaded we tend to sit out back more when we are relaxing.
I pass this on to my friend Laura- and since I have seen this challenge on so many other blogs I will say that if you have not done this challenge yet and would like to play along then I tag you also.
Jody is an excellent seamstress- I love the quilt she did for her church- and in a week no less! Exquisite! On Jody's other blog is her obsession for miniatures- it looks like she is building a dollhouse for her daughter Joanna, as well as a garden shed that I love! I also love to look at the pictures of Jody's home and life- especially the hay baling. I love hay bales so much- do you think I was a farmer in a past life? Every time I see my neighbors cows out in the fields or the hay bales it just brings a smile to my face. Thank you for reading Jody!!
I did a bit of work on the dollhouse yesterday while I should have been cleaning. I did clean the real house a bit, but cleaning is just do darn boring! I saw a tutorial over at New England Miniatures Blog ( http://newenglandminiatures.blogspot.com/2009/07/non-working-miniature-venetian-blind.html ) for some non-working venetian blinds and I thought I would give it a try for the windows in the living room of my dollhouse. My dollhouse is front opening-so all the windows in this part of the dollhouse are in the doors. I think they turned out kind of cool- I must have opened the dollhouse up to look at them about 50 times after I finished them. My hubby thought it was quite hilarious. I am so in love with my dollhouse- just like a little kid. I also made a paper towel holder for the kitchen- should have taken a picture of it before I attached it to the wall. I have some renovations planned for the kitchen- I don't like how my wallpaper turned out and the whole room needs trim. That will be a winter project. I have a lot of winter projects piled up now!
I'm a busy gal here. I just finished up the table runner and keepsake box that are part of my present for my friend's daughter's wedding. I hope she likes it. I hope she thinks the parts that are slightly crooked are charming :) Now I need to finish cleaning my craft room because I have friends coming next week and I don't want them to see what a slob I am!!
♥ Hi, my name is Kim. I live in northern Minnesota with my wonderful hubby and my pomeranian Miko. I love dollhouse miniatures, art journaling, sewing, jewelry making, gardening----I really love to make things and I jump around from project to project a lot! ♥ email@example.com
