I have a new follower I would like to welcome this morning. Please pay a visit to Sandy. Sandy has two blogs:

Sandy is a mixed media artist. She has some beautiful ATC (artist trading cards- which are the size of baseball cards, but original handmade works of art) and does some gorgeous painting as well. Her other blog is full of amazing vintage photos of family, as well as current family photos. I love to see vintage family pictures- sometimes I wish I could travel back to the time they were taken! Thank you for reading Sandy!!

I accomplished completely nothing this last weekend, unless you count the 1/2 hour of weeding I forced myself to do sunday night when I got home after all of my partying ways! My ant present topper was a great hit with the bride- she absolutely loved it! I was so tired by sunday though- I have to admit that I was never, ever so happy to see a wedding shower come to an end. Tonight I catch up on housework and more weeding in the garden- hopefully I will have some time for actually creating something by wednesday. Happy Monday to all!!!

Dum dum de dum

Here comes the ant bride and groom. This is the little package topper I made for the wedding shower of a friend with a picnic theme wedding. Her invitations have little ants on them so I thought it would be fun to make this little sculpture to go on top of her present. It looks better in real life- I think it turned out kind of cute and I hope she gets a giggle out of it. Back to work now- I will be thankful for next week when I don't have such a full schedule.

Garden pictures

Just a few garden pictures today. I made my wedding ants last night and I am letting them dry good and hard today so that I can paint them tonight. I think they turned out quite cute- I hope the bride gets a smile from them. Anyhow, here are pictures from my garden this morning. We have been having rain off and on here, so I thought I better take some pictures of some of the peonies before they were all gone. The rain is kind of hard on them. I also have some lillies opening, yellow foxglove and blue campanella. I think that is what the blue flowers are called. I planted them from seed years ago and each year in the fall I go out and shake the stems hard to send seeds flying and let them keep popping up wherever they like. Hope your day is sunny where you live!

I need to extend a big welcome to a new follower today. Please visit Kathi at

I found Kathi's blog while I was reading someone else's blog and I read that she is starting a beach theme dollhouse and decided I just had to follow along on her journey! Of course, I just know I will get along with anyone that describes themselves as "a creative and crafty thrift store shopper" too! I am glad that you visited me here Kathi and look forward to seeing your dollhouse progress.

I have been busy this week! I have my monthly "craft night" to go to this week (I meet with a small bunch of ladies once a month to do a craft-which is really just an excuse to talk and eat a dessert, but since I don't get out much I really look forward to this). I also have a penpal package to get mailed before the end of the week, a wedding to go to on saturday and a wedding shower on sunday. I feel like I need some more hours in my days! I have been working on a little pair of paper clay ants dressed as a bride and groom for the top of my package for the wedding shower. The bride is having a very casual wedding with a picnic theme. The invitations have ants all over them so I thought a bride and groom ant package topper would be cute. Hopefully I will be posting pictures of them at the end of the week. I also ordered a book from on how to make 1/12 dollhouse dolls. I had a gift certificate and the first time I tried to make a doll it did not go well at all. I am hoping that maybe I will do better with the book. I wish it would hurry and get here- I would love to take it with me to the hotel so I could read it after the wedding on saturday night! Hope you all are having a good week too!

I have been giving an award from Mary at

I am supposed to complete the sentence "I am light and I want to illuminate..." and then choose other blogs to give this to. This was a hard award to receive- I have seen some excellent answers to this statement too. This is how I chose to finish...

I am light and I want to illuminate all of the hard working, self-sacrificing and love filled Mom's in the world- mine right up there at the top. I would not be the person I am today if I did not have my Mom's guidance, her love, her support and her ear to listen to my problems- no matter the time of day or night. There have been many times in my life I don't know if I would have made it without my Mom there to help me. If you are a Mother or if you have a wonderful Mom- I would like to illuminate you in a bright spot light and say a big thank you from all of us children.

Now, I have some blogs that I do not think have received this award that I would like to pass this on to:

First, my good friend Laura from
Laura is one of those great Mom's I am talking about and she is a great friend too. I am thankful the blogging world allowed us to know each other and she illuminates my life a lot!

Next, Doreen at
Doreen has been so kind and helpful to me since I started blogging and she has some wonderful gardens around her home so I feel a special "gardening" connection with her.

Jessie at also deserves this award. Jessie has also been so kind to me since I started blogging and Jessie illuminates the world already because she recycles and even gets her boyfriend and friends to recycle too!

Last, Tiffany at
I think that Tiffany's quest to learn more and improve upon her talents, be they minis, drawing or painting is very illuminating. I also love her sense of humor and I love her even more now that I know she is a fellow book addict.

Pretty much every blog I read deserves this award. Everyone I have met through blogging so far has been so kind and helpful to me.

Garden pics :)

Here are some pictures from the garden. I decided that our homemade fountain needed some more bling so I started gluing some flat marbles around the outer edge, but then it got real dark and cloudy so I stopped and prayed the glue would dry before the rain. (that's why the fountain is not working in the pic- it's a solar fountain) I also had another bearded iris open- it's so pretty in person. It is a mauve pink color with a creamy yellow center.More pictures of the painted daisies, which are going crazy this year. My path is getting close to being completely concrete- there's a progress picture of that, and last....there are at least 3 baby birds in that birdhouse! The momma bird has been kept quite busy feeding them and I have counted 3 little open beaks at one time in that hole opening. If I make noise near the house when Momma bird is not around they will often come up to the hole with their beaks open looking for food thinking their Momma has come back! Gotta love nature!!!

AND THE WINNER IS...........

Katie, if you would email me your shipping address at I will send you my handmade prizes!

Thank you to everyone that signed up for my giveaway and thank you to everyone that takes the time to read my blog- I adore all of you!!!

I am taking tomorrow off work so I hope that I get the time to work on my tea shop roombox this weekend. I want to start to get it finished because I have too many other projects in my head!!!

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

I thought you might like to see some pictures of my "art" journal. I think art journal means different things to different people. To me, it is my journal that I often add my art into. I have had a journal for quite a few years now. I don't always write or draw every day. Sometimes weeks or months can go past without working in my journal at all. I used to just write in my journal. Then it progressed to writing and pictures cut out of magazines and small doodles. Now- pretty much anything goes in my journal. I write there, I add lists of things to do, cards or letters people have sent to me that hold a special place in my heart-drawings that have meaning and silly drawings that mean nothing at all. An art journal can also be a journal just filled only with artwork- techniques to try, notes about different art supplies or art techniques, sketches for projects, experiments with different art mediums. I mentioned my journal once to Tiffany from Mini Mischief and I thought I would show her what I was talking about :) The blurry lines are the places where I talked about work or family- no one needs to read that stuff! I am also including a picture of the ravioli I made last night. I just started learning how to cook in my late 30's. I have been lucky enough to marry a man that likes to cook and I never have really had to cook or learn how to. When I quit my job as a floral designer and started working less hours with less stress I decided I would start to learn how to cook. This is the first time I have made ravioli from scratch. I learned that I should roll the dough out a bit thinner, and that I need to work on my technique- they are not the prettiest! But, overall I am very proud of them. They were edible and the only way you learn is by doing and noting your mistakes :) If you are italian and know how to cook real, pretty, delicious ravioli please avert your eyes :)

I have some new followers to welcome today.

Please help me welcome

I would like to welcome new follower Mercedes from

I know a lot of people that read my blog already know Mercedes but if you don't please stop by and visit her. She is a busy Mom, scrapbooker, crafter and excellent miniaturist! I admire her sense of style- her dollhouse has such a classy look to it- it flows so wonderfully you just want to move right in! She has recently been posting pictures of her dollhouse that she just had in a show so now is the best time to visit her blog- it is amazing! Thank you for reading Mercedes! I have been getting so much inspiration and tips from your blog!

Garden pictures!

A few new flowers are slowly starting to open in the garden. I have been weeding like crazy since the rain we had earlier this week. I wish that the flowers would grow and perform as well and reliably as the weeds do! My hubby had just mowed the grass before the rain and it already needs mowing again! I have some pictures of the perennial bachelor buttons, the painted daisies (I think their real name is pyrethrum?), some yellow iris that are in the garden in front of my house and some bearded iris. The dark bearded iris is a cross between maroon and brown and very stunning in person. Hope your day is sunny wherever you are!

Garden pics and aching heads

Nothing this weekend went as I planned. I was stuck at a graduation party longer than I planned on Saturday. On the way home from the graduation party the rain started. It's been wet and gloomy and the water seems thick in the air- which is playing some great tricks with my head. I'm so glad to see the rain- we have been really, really dry here in Minnesota. I think I heard on the news that it was the third dryest may in history. I don't like how it makes my head hurt though. I started to make some cupcakes for my dollhouse bakery on saturday night, but my head hurt so bad I just quit. Then I thought maybe I would just work on another one of my wicker chairs for the tea shop roombox, but that hurt too bad too. Finally I just gave up and went to lay down. Unfortunately, I still have the headache yet today- although not quite as bad since I took some sudafed. I just hate when I feel like I have wasted 2 whole days just laying around and not doing much of anything. I've just been laying on the couch or the bed looking at my dollhouse books and a new book I just got about gnomes. I did take some pictures of my garden before the rain came on saturday. The greatest picture is the one with the lily pad looking thing in a tub. That was a present from my hubby- you can't see it working in the picture because it was so cloudy when I took it, but it is a solar fountain. When the sun is shining the lilypad is a water fountain. It's pretty cool- when the sun shines again I'm going to post a better picture :) I also have some bearded iris starting to flower. I think the tiny blue flowers are flax, but I'm not sure. The poppies are starting to bloom. The rest are just some random pictures of various places around the garden. Once we get sun again I think things are going to start to bloom- some of the pink daisies are really close and so are the perennial bachelor buttons. As a special note to my friend Laura- whom I am trying to get healthy with---I went for my walk friday- had to do the treadmill saturday and will admit that I have done nothing but lay around and be lazy sunday. Tomorrow I'm back on track girl- promise.

I have a couple new followers today that I would like to welcome.

First, please welcome Casey from

Casey has an amazing blog! If you have never visited her blog you must go over there and visit her. The best part about Casey's blog is Tessie- a doll that Casey has created that often takes over Casey's blog and her life too! Tessie brings a smile to my face most days with her antics. Casey is also a very experienced and sharing miniature artist and I have learned a lot from her- she is always sharing tutorials on the things she creates. Thanks for reading Casey and thanks for all the tips!

I would also like to welcome Jen from

Jen is a busy mom and talented artist. Jen has an etsy shop where she sells minis that she has made as well as other artwork like artist trading cards and cards. They are too cute! Jen also likes gardening and has posted some fab pictures of how her garden is doing so far this year. I have to love any blog that has garden pictures!

Thank you for reading ladies, I am so happy you stopped by!!

I have a couple new garden pictures I hope to post tomorrow. I forgot where I put my camera and finally found it this morning, so tonight after work I will be snapping some pictures to share. My hubby has a bachelor's party to go to saturday night too, which makes me very excited. I am going to hurry and clean the house saturday morning so that I can play in my art room all saturday night with no interruptions! Hoo-ray- hopefully I'll be sharing what I make on monday!

Thursday, June 4, 2009

I would like to welcome a couple of new followers again today. I never imagined when I started using this blog that I would find so many generous, kind-hearted people in the blogging world interested in dollhouses. I have learned so much already from all of you and I am having so much more fun actually creating things for my dollhouse and roombox rather than only purchasing items. Not that buying the occasional treasure isn't fun too!! Now I get to save more money for the special items!

Please welcome a couple of ladies I am sure a lot of you are familiar with.

First, visit Kat at
Kat makes the most amazing miniature witches hat's and is working on a witches house. Kat worked as a milliner in "normal" size and is now transfering those skills to her small hats. Her work is amazing- if you have not seen it please pay her a visit.

Next we have Mags from
Mags makes incredible miniature food- and it looks like she is a specialist in period food settings as well if your dollhouse is set in a specific time period. Her work is incredibly detailed and makes me very hungry!

Thank you for reading ladies! Hope your day is as sunny as mine is here in Minnesota, USA!

Please help me welcome a couple of new followers today!

I would also like to welcome Sabiha at

I did not recognize her at first, but Kat helped me out :) I love, love, love the flowers that Sabiha has made- her peonies are delicous! She also has the cutest treehouse on her site today- it is so cute- you have to go over and see :)

Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday!!! I get to go out to dinner tonight with my hubby for a date and I am very excited!

Garden pics and a sigh of relief

Well, I took my first plunge and went to my assesment test. I have learned that I am really good with reading and English, but have not retained very much of my arithmetic and algebra skills. In fact, when it comes to algebra, I may have only scored what I did by pure chance of guessing correctly. Now it is done and I can go back next week and discuss with a counselor where I should start. I felt sick this morning- now I feel excited again! Woo-hoo----I am going to go learn!

Enough of that nonsense- I have just a couple of garden pics to show today. I have a couple of pictures from the garden between the trees in my backyard. The bleeding heart is blooming right now and it is so pretty. I also have pics of the chives blooming, my little weeping tree is blooming (sorry, I don't know it's name), the lily of the valley and some annuals I planted in the tree stump in front of my pots of herbs. My favorite is the picture of the little secret room that is inside the lilac bushes. I put a couple of chairs in there and a little table on a milk can. June is when things start to get going in my garden so hopefully my pictures will be more colorful soon :)

Wicker Chair

I just can't seem to get a good picture of the wicker chair- I think it looks so much better in person. I'm pretty proud of it if you can't tell- it was fun to make. Anyhow, here is a pic of the chair from better lighting.

Kibbygirls is having a giveaway!

One blog that I love to read is Kibbygirl has lots of good ideas and tips for the person trying to be more frugal with her dollhouse habit- and I have been trying to make more of my own minis and buy less. Today she has announced she is having a giveaway for June- one lucky winner will recieve a handstitched dollhouse rug from her at the end of June. All you have to do to enter is comment on one of her posts sometime in June. They are very pretty- here's a link to the post to take a look and visit her great blog :)

Today I scheduled an appointment for an assesment test at our local community college. To say that I am scared would be an understatement! I have not been to school in 20 years! I am only going to take one class the first semester back- just in case I have a problem adjusting to being a student! I'm not aiming for a degree or anything- at least not now:) I am hoping to learn more to help me with the job I have now and to help me get a new job if I lost this one. I was hired for the job I have even though I have never really worked in an office before. Sometimes I end up teaching myself how to use a program rather than admit to Corporate that I have never used it( I am alone in this office in a branch location). So far, I have been doing pretty good, but I know there must be easier ways to do the things I do and so I am going back to school to learn the correct way. I am pretty scared- I DO NOT like change or things that are not in my normal routine. Something like this is a pretty big, brave step for me so I will probably be writing about it now and then to spare my hubby having to listen to it :) Anyhow, assesment test tomorrow and then I schedule an appointment with a councelor for help on how I should proceed. I feel like a child and an adult all at the same time!!!

Tea Room Progress

I spent my time this past weekend working on my garden and the Tea Shoppe roombox. I did manage to fit a little bit of housecleaning in there- had to- we didn't have any clean clothes left! Nothing like no clean undies to make you get your behind in gear! Anyhow- I am sure that is more than you needed to know- on to the tea room.

I finished my first wicker chair- I wish the picture was better. I am going to try to get some better pictures of it tomorrow morning with better lighting. I took this picture last night and it really sucks. I am going to make 3 more now- it wasn't too hard. I made 2 tables following a tutorial I found on Casey's blog at . I like how they turned out. Funny how just a couple of small things can take me so long! I also added a picture of my 1/24 size bear named Bernard sitting in the wicker chair. I am eventually going to do the real good toys 1/24th scale farmhouse dollhouse for Bernard to live in. I made Bernard a tie this weekend. He is modeling it in the picture. He thinks he is quite dapper now:)
