This has been a long week. We have been doing inventory at work and trying to meet a couple of other deadlines. I have not been doing much after work except making dinner, cleaning up and spending time in the garden. If I don't spend time in the garden each day the weeds can easily take over and get ahead of me. Let's not talk about the fact that I love to be out there. That's not why I NEED to spend time out there each day. It's the weeds- really. I am looking forward to being able to spend some time this weekend working on my tea shop roombox. Last night I started to construct the first wicker chair and it is actually kind of fun. The hard part is letting glue dry in between steps. I am not a very patient person. My real house really needs a good cleaning though, so I think I will make a compromise with myself and clean in between glue drying. I am going to try to make a table with a tablecloth from a tutorial from Casey's minis blog too if I have time. Hopefully I will have some pictures to share next week. Hope everyone has a good weekend :)
Leo makes very detailed and fabulous minis- he has a table he has constucted from clothes pins. His work is wonderful, please take a look.
Erika from http://erikasminiatures.blogspot.com/- Erika is working on a dollhouse and tells us about Angela- who will be living in this house. Please take a look and see what Erika and Angela are up to!
The weekend flew past me way too quickly. I have been a bad blogger- I have not read anyone's blogs or posted myself for a few days. I wish that a person did not have to sleep- I always wonder where the time has gone. I worked on my tea room a bit this weekend- I put the rest of the lattice work on the shelves and I put the second window treatment up. I also bought a book with instructions for wicker furniture and I am going to try to make a few chairs to go in the tea room. Most of the weekend I worked in my garden. I have birds nesting in two of the birdhouses in the garden. Barn swallows are nesting in one of them and the mama barn swallow is very protective. If I get near her house she chirps and chirps at me and if I don't take the hint she dive bombs me. I guess that area of the garden will be growing some weeds until the babies leave the nest. That is ok with me- I would be protective of my babies too I guess. Every time she goes into the house to feed them you can hear the chorus of chirps and I can see the little wide open mouths in my mind :) Not much new blooming in my garden. My lilacs have started to open this weekend and the smell is heavenly. One of my favorite times of the year. I am showing a picture of all the plants starting to grow and fill in- quite a difference from the pictures of brown twigs. I also have a picture of the pots outside my garden gate that are now filled with herbs, tomatoes and peppers. This is the first year I have tried growing herbs and veggies in a pot together- I hope they do well! Have I mentioned that I really, really love my garden?
Cathy over at http://www.thefabulousfarmhouse.com/ has just celebrated her second anniversary so of course I needed to buy some of her fab creations for my dollhouse bakery. My hubby made me a little stand for the hanging candy that she sells. They are so adorable! I had only bought one packet on my first order and after the hubby built the stand I needed more. Here is a picture of the candy hanging on the stand. I love them Cathy!!!! I need more, but that will have to wait until I can have another mini buying spree. If you have time- pop over to her store and look at her wonderful creations. Not much else going on with me right now.....I have been doing my excercise tape so I am sore and trying to adjust to muscles waking up. Ugh. We are doing inventory at work and that is a bummer too. When I sit down at night I have been doing that second pillow- you don't have too move too much to do that. I am practicing trying to have a "lighter hand" in my stitching.
oh yeah- the cookies in the case are made by Cathy too- aren't they adorable!!!!!!
Next we have Teresa from http://minimadwoman.blogspot.com/ Teresa is working on her Villa Villekula dollhouse---but it seems as if she is like me and would rather play outside when the weather is nice. So hard to choose!!! She also has a beautiful new pink bicycle and it is worth it to go check her out just to see that!
Thank you for reading ladies!!!
Next......I took the plunge and sewed up my pillow! I can see all of the mistakes that I made, but I am hoping you cannot see them as much! I have learned that I need to work on my skills of actually making a pillow this small, but I am pretty in love with it and so pleased that I might be able to eventually tackle that tea cozy kit after all. I think a second pillow and a rug will come first so that I can get some more practice. I think the places where you can see a bit of white were from me pulling the string too tight- a problem I have in knitting too. I could have missed a stitch though. Anyhow, now I am feeling all brave and ready for the second one. Woo Hoo!
I spent a good part of my weekend out in my garden. I am addicted to my garden- I think my hubby has thought an intervention is in order more than once. Here are some new pictures of my garden. I think I had about 8 total tulips that came up and bloomed. I have a few iris starting to show their colors- but not much yet. June is when the color seems to start to show up for me. I wish the whole summer had the gardening conditions of the spring though.....nice cool breezes, not many bugs---no grasshoppers! How I hate grasshoppers bouncing off of me! My paths are still under construction- not much progress there as I need to go buy more concrete. The same is true for fence pickets, so not much progress there either. I have pulled hundreds upon hundreds of weeds though :)
I also worked a bit on the tea room this past weekend. I cut some lattice work from balsa wood and painted it pink to add to the shelving. I still have more to do and my cutting is not perfect, but I am pretty pleased with the results. I also tried my hand at making some curtains for the window and I really like how they turned out! I am learning and having so much fun with this roombox. I have my little pillow for the flower shop dollhouse all finished but I am really nervous about cutting it down and making it into a pillow so I am still procrastinating there. Maybe this afternoon I will get the guts :)
The tag asks you to name six unimportant things that make you happy......Things that make me happy aren't unimportant. Then you have to pass it on to six other people and they have to do the same thing to six others, on to infinity........
There are so many things that make me happy, and like Tiffany says- if it makes you happy how in the world can it be unimportant. A day with smiles beats a day of frowns every time.
1. Friends and family. Where would any of us be without good friends and family to listen to us, celebrate with us, cry with us and laugh with us.
2. Here is a silly one- my ipod. I love music and my hubby really doesn't. I love that I can just load my ipod up with all the different types of music that I like and listen whenever I like without bothering him with my weird music choices :)
3. Chocolate. If I am having a bad day chocolate is the first thing I seem to think of to make it better. Yes, I really am ruled by my stomach.
4. Art supplies and books. Two things I am more than just a little addicted to- in addition to chocolate.
5. My garden and nature- although if you ask me, this is a really important one in my book. Sometimes I wonder how time can fly by so fast when I am in my garden. Eight hours seems like eight minutes out there to me.
6. These things always make me so happy and make me smile anytime I see them: pumpkins, oak leaves and acorns. I love, love, love, love them.
Now to tag 6 people, which is always hard for me- who to choose?
If you would like to play ladies then I tag you :)
I am looking forward to being able to work on some stuff this weekend so hopefully I will have more interesting posts next week. For some reason working 2 jobs last week really messed up my whole schedule. I have been trying to catch up on everything- laundry, cleaning the fridge, vacuuming, etc. I cannot believe that I can get so behind just from one week! I am just about caught up and I think I still have some energy, so this weekend I am devoting that energy to "me" time. I can hardly wait. Hope everyone else has a great weekend too :)
I am an excited gal today. I am starting to recover from working 2 jobs last week and I decided last night that I would search for some printable tea boxes for my room box and make a few of them. It sounded like a project that would not require a lot of energy :) I found these tea boxes at the site of Christine Woolsey--http://cwoolse.tripod.com/miniprintables/junk.html
Last night I glued some of them together and touched up the edges with a little paint. I think they look fab. I also made some little cream puffs with chocolate for the desert plates I am going to have on the tables. I made these from a tutorial on the CDHM forum- it was really easy to follow- I will be sure to try out some of the other tutorials I have seen posted there! The reason I am so excited is that I am really pleased with how the picture turned out this time. I was commenting on Julie Campbell's blog and picked up a good tip on taking pictures. I don't know why I never thought of it before. Karin over at http://orrlakemusings.blogspot.com/ suggested to take a good picture from far away and then crop it as a close up in a photo editing program. This is what I did this time and I think I might finally have a decent picture of a mini for once. Karin- if you happen to be reading this at all- I have to say a huge thank you!! Anyhow, that's my only picture to share for today. I have been spending time outside pulling weeds and still trying to be patient waiting for some flowers to show their faces :) Hope everyone had a wonderful mother's day!
I have some new followers- I hope that I am listing the correct people- I apologize if I am messing things up in my brain!
First, I think that Tiffany from http://minimischief.blogspot.com/ is a new follower. If I messed this up Tiffany I am so sorry! Tiffany is a wonderful gal that is so funny, helpful and loves dollhouse minis. I love to read her blog- she often brings a smile to my face. Please go check her blog out :)
next we have K. Arthur at http://dollhouseminiatureart.blogspot.com/ She creates dollhouse minis- beautiful paintings for your dollhouse that she sells on ebay. It looks like she also collects hitty dolls- I have always loved and wanted a hitty doll but I have too many hobbies and so decided that I could not be starting a new collection. She also has a very interesting dollhouse she just purchased and I am anxious to see what she does with it. I love it. Go to her blog and take a look.
I have recieved an award from Eva! I am not even really sure how to do these- how do you put them on the side of your blog like I see so often?
I am so grateful to Eva for presenting me with this award- she is such a sweet and talented person!
Here is the meaning I took from Eva:
“This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to 6 bloggers who must choose 6 more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.”
This is a wonderful thing to receive because I feel like I have met so many kind, sharing, nice people already in the short time I have been writing here.
I am meant to pass this award on to 6 people, so here goes:
I have not been up to much. I have started to sew a couple of cushions for my dollhouse. I have had many starts and many "rip-outs" but after getting some good advice from Tiffany over at http://minimischief.blogspot.com/ I think I might finally be getting the hang of it. I want to try to make a rug, but I figured after I had so much trouble getting it down pat I would start out with a couple of pillows instead. Here's my stitching so far. The horrible looking triangle off to itself is one of the "rip-outs" I have not finished ripping out:) I also ordered a tea cozy kit from the website Tiffany sent me to- although I think I must be crazy if I had so much trouble with a pillow! I really want some tea cozies in my tea room though- so I am keeping at it and I WILL get this embroidiery thing down pat!
I spent pretty much the entire weekend working in my garden. If you can believe it, I still have more to clear out. At least most of my little baby plants can breathe and grow now. I was happy to find that I did have about 6 tulips come up this year- go figure. I am awful at bulbs- I think I may be planting them too deep sometimes and not deep enough other times. Maybe. Anyhow- they are just green little buds right now- not even a hint to tell me what color they will be. I think our temps are supposed to be warmer and stay that way now, so maybe by the end of the week they will turn color. My hubby worked on putting up some of my new fence. I am replacing my old handmade lathe fence with sturdier wooden pickets. The lathe seemed like a good idea at the time, and it was certainly what I could afford, but it does not hold up well. You can see the new picket fence and the old lathe fence in one of the pictures. The pickets will stay- the lathe will eventually be making me a nice little fire in my chimerrea pot on the deck :) Lots of green stuff coming up, but nothing with color yet for me. My lilacs have big HUGE buds- I think if we got some rain that the leaves will all pop open. I also posted some pictures of the concrete path- it's coming along, but still not finished with that project either. I won't be working on the garden much this week- I am in pain from all that I did this last weekend and I am going to be working 2 jobs towards the end of the week since I help out at the flower shop I used to work at for the holiday after my regular job. I'm off to search for the bottle of advil and a good cup of coffee:)
